REGULAR MEETING

The Fairbank City Council met in Regular Session on Monday, January 27, 2003 at 6:00 P.M. In the absence of Mayor Welsh, the meeting was called to order by Mayor Pro-tem Suckow. Members present: Suckow, Frost, Woods and Kayser. Absent: Plaster. Also present: Ted Vorwald, Utility Superintendent; Dave Ryan, Assistant Public Works Director; Clarence Leyh, Police Chief and Marlene Strempke, City Clerk.

Motion by Frost, second by Kayser to approve the agenda as presented. Roll call vote—Ayes: Frost, Kayser, and Woods. Nays: None.

Brenda Dryer, Buchanan County Economic Development Director was present to request the same level of funding as they received last year ($1,500). It will be considered during budget discussions.

Motion by Kayser, second by Woods to approve RESOLUTION 2003-02—RESOLUTION FOR VOLUNTARY ANNEXATION. Roll call vote—Ayes: Kayser, Woods and Frost. Nays: None.

Engineering proposals were received from four companies interested in engineering the pool construction. The Pool Committee will evaluate the proposals and they will make their recommendation at the next council meeting.

Motion by Kayser, second by Woods acknowledging Memorandum of Motion in Support of Public Financial Assistance to Assisted Living Facility in Fairbank, Iowa. Roll call vote—Ayes: Kayser, Woods and Frost. Nays: None.

Ted has been approached about purchasing the lights and equipment from the Oran football field. Motion by Woods, second by Frost to approve the purchase of the lights only at $100 each. Roll call vote—Ayes: Woods, Frost, and Kayser. Nays: None.

Randy Ciesielski representing the post office informed the council that Fairbank is at the top of the list for a new post office. There are size and parking requirements so thought will need to be given to having an adequate size of area available.

Ted will order seedling trees to begin a tree nursery for eventual transplant to the parks.

Ted and Mayor Welsh will be helping to co-ordinate a birthday acknowledgement for Mildred Bentley on her 105th birthday.

Budget preparations were finalized and the date for a Public Hearing will be set at the next council meeting.

Motion by Woods, second by Frost to adjourn. Roll call vote—Ayes: Woods, Frost, and Kayser. Nays: None.
