01/16/03-IC KNIGHT OF COLUMBUS DONATE $500 TO THE POOL-The IC chapter of the KC's donated $500.00 to the new pool project! Their gift is very much appreciated! Thank you! 11/15/02-FAIRBANK DAYS DONATIONS-Fairbank Days has agreed to donate $3,000 to the new pool project and $2,000 to the elementary school for computers to be used for reading programs. 11/13/02-100th ANNIVERSARY CHRISTMAS ORNAMENTS ON SALE NOW- The Fairbank Fire Department has issued 100 limited edition Christmas ornaments to be for sale to the public. However less then 50 of these beautiful ornaments remain. Once they are gone no more will be made! ON SALE NOW AT THE FAIRBANK FOOD CENTER 11/07/02- LOCAL OPTION TAX EXTENSION PASSED-80% of voters in both city precincts voted to extend the local option tax in Fairbank for 10 years with 50% of the tax going towards a new pool. So if all goes as planned, Fairbank will have a new "Aquatic Center" in 2 years.
Now the committee has to concentrate on pledge drives, writing grants, and preparing public hearings so the citizens can have some input on the nearly 1 million dollar project.
Hopefully the project will be ready for bid letting in the summer or early fall 2003!

9/24/02-ENGINEERING CONTRACT FOR NEW POOL APPROVED-At the request of the Pool Board and the "new pool committee", the council did approve an engineering contract to Pool Tech for the designing and creating of a budget for the new pool. The board wants to at least have a preliminary design completed before the local option tax vote, so the citizens can see what the L.O.T. money will go for. A meeting of the pool board is scheduled for Monday, the 30th to view the first drawing. 9/24/02-ADDITIONAL FULL-TIME EMPLOYEE HIRED FOR PUBLIC WORKS- At the regular council meeting on 9/23/02 the city council approved to hire Harry Fowler as a full-time employee in the Public Works Department. Harry is a lifelong resident of Fairbank and active on the fire department. Harry will perform a number of duties in Public Works and Utilities. He will also be working on obtaining various certifications necessary to perform specialized duties in the future. "Harry will be a welcome addition, and we have thoroughly explained to him the position and our expectations of him" said Superintendent Ted Vorwald. WELCOME ABOARD! PERSONNEL MANUAL AND JOB DESCRIPTIONS- The city council is in the process of re-developing the job descriptions for the employees, and the personnel manual for the city. If you have any question or comments, contact your councilperson. 7/10/02-FUTURE OF SWIMMING POOL-On Wednesday, July 10th the pool board met to discuss the future of the pool. It was decided that the current pool has outlasted it's expected lifespan, and before any major repairs are needed, the board will peruse building a new pool, to be completed in 4 years. The project is in it's early planning stage and if you are interested in being involved with the project, contact city hall. 07/15/02- NEW WATER TOWER COMPLETED-The new water tower located in the 500 block of East Main Street is complete. Also, the pumps at the well houses have been upgraded and the system should be on-line by Friday, July 19th. This completes a two year project to upgrade the city water system to keep up with the growing demand, and to provide adequate water for fire protection. The project, funded by local 1cent option tax and a CDBG grant, includes construction of new 10" water mains, new water tower, and upgrades at the well houses. You may noticed a significant increase in water pressure depending on where you are located.
POLICE DEPARTMENT GRANTS AWARDED-The city of Fairbank has received state grant money to be used towards the purchase of equipment for the newly formed police department. The grants came form the Governor's Traffic Safety Bureau and the Governor's Office on Drug Control Policy. The money is being used to purchase the following equipment: Radar, P.B.T., in-car video camera, computer system, computer software, and a high-tech mobile radio system GO TO HOME CITY HALL POLICE FIRE CEMETERY LIBRARY COUNCIL MINUTES PUBLIC WORKS UTILITIES PARKS NEWS CITY MAP
