Dakota Drish, Fairbank Part-Time Chief of Police

Fairbank Police Chief Dakota Drish is a proud member of the Fairbank Iowa Police Department and has been serving the City of Fairbank as a police officer since August 28th, 2020. Chief Drish is currently employed full-time as a State Conservation Officer for the Iowa Department of Natural Resources Law Enforcement Bureau and performs his Police Chief duties for the City of Fairbank on a part-time basis. Before becoming a State Conservation Officer, Chief Drish received an Associate of Arts Degree and an Associate of Applied Science Degree from Indian Hills Community College, a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Buena Vista University, and a Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice from St. Ambrose University.  While performing his undergraduate and graduate studies, Chief Drish was employed by the Washington County Sheriff’s Office working in their Jail facility, the Washington County Conservation Board maintaining their parks and public hunting areas, the Juvenile Court Services System throughout Jefferson County Iowa, and the Iowa Department of Natural Resources as a State Water Patrol Officer in various locations throughout the State of Iowa. Subsequently, Chief Drish was hired by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources Law Enforcement Bureau as a State Conservation Officer assigned to Webster and Humboldt Counties in 2012 and has since occupied assignments in Buchanan, Black Hawk and Delaware Counties as well.

Chief Drish has received a variety of training throughout his career including: Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Level 1 Training, Urine Alcohol Collection Training, Advanced Roadside Impaired Driving Enforcement, National Boating Accident Investigation and Analysis Course Level 1 - Comprehensive, M4/AR15 Carbine/M16 Rifle Law Enforcement Armorer Certification, Air Care Training, CPR & AED, DataMaster DMT Training, NASBLA Boat Accident Investigation Online Course Training, OWI/Implied Consent & SFST training, NASBLA Boating While Intoxicated Detection and Enforcement training, Designated Defensive Marksman Instructor Certification, ILEA Rifle Instructor Certification, Vehicle Close Quarters Battle Training, Designated Defensive Marksman Operator/LE L1 8-Hrs, Precision Rifle For Law Enforcement, Valor Training, Emotional Survival of Law Enforcement, Force Science Training, Firearms Instructor School, Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Level 2 Training, Sig Arms Handgun Armorer Certification, Remington Armorer Certification, LEDT Certification, Statement Analysis Training, Close Quarter's Boat Operation, Hunting Incident Investigation Academy, Interview and Interrogation Schools, the Iowa DNR Law Enforcement Bureau’s Field Training program, Lt. Colonel Dave Grossman Presentation and Training, the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy, the Iowa Department of Natural Resources Probationary Conservation Officer Academy, Certified NRA Range Safety Officer training, Certified Instructor Workshops in various educational disciplines for the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, Seasonal Water Patrol Officer Training, Iowa and Vermont Boating Education Safety Courses, Iowa DNR Parks Bureau Seasonal Night Officer Training, Bow Hunting Education, Iowa Hunter Education, and more.  

Chief Drish has received a variety of awards and held a variety of positions throughout his career to include academic achievement awards, Vice President of the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy’s 249th Basic Training Class, the Robert Klaes Award for being the “Most Congenial” person of the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy’s 249th Basic Training Class, the John Stark Award for being the “Top Shooter” of the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy’s 249th Basic Training Class, and the Iowa Department of Natural Resources Law Enforcement Bureau’s 2019 Fur Harvester Enforcement Officer of the Year, among others. Among those listed, Chief Drish has also received recognition from the Iowa Department of Natural Resources Law Enforcement Bureau Staff for investigating the “Case of The Year” which is voted on annually based upon the totality and complication of the case resolution statewide.

Chief Drish has served the Iowa Department of Natural Resources Law Enforcement Bureau in various roles including as a Firearms Instructor, Rifle Instructor, Designated Defensive Marksman Instructor, Armorer, Season Patrol Officer Instructor, Code Committee Member, and Regulation Review Committee Member while performing his full-time duties as a State Conservation Officer.

Regularly attending and participating in his local church activities, spending quality time with his family, hunting, fishing, trapping, target shooting, boating, camping, all-terrain vehicle riding, snowmobiling, teaching hunter education, teaching bow hunter education, and teaching fur harvester education are all important outside interests to Chief Drish.

Mark Gudenkauf, Fairbank Part-Time Police Officer

Mark was approved to join the Fairbank Police Department on August 24, 2020. He works full-time for the Independence Police Department. He has worked there for over 18 years.

Brandon French, Fairbank Part-Time Police Officer and Drug Recognition Expert

Officer Brandon French is a proud member of the Fairbank community, and has been a part time Police Officer with the City of Fairbank since February 2021. Officer French is currently employed as a full time Police Officer with the City of Jesup, where he holds the position of Patrol Sergeant. Before becoming a police officer, Officer French acquired an Associate Degree in Police Science from Hawkeye Community College and subsequently became a full-time police officer on September 11, 2017. Officer French volunteers time instructing at the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy as a Certified Standardized Field Sobriety Test Instructor. Officer French is also a Certified Drug Recognition Expert and is very passionate about making our roadways safe to travel on for each of our families. In Officer French’s free time, he enjoys spending time with his family, watching football, and being with his friends.

Mitchell Franck, Fairbank Part-Time Police Officer and School Resource Officer

Officer Mitchell Franck is a proud member of the Fairbank Iowa Police Department and has been serving since March of 2022. Officer Franck is currently employed as a full time Deputy Sheriff for the Buchanan County Sheriff’s Office since May of 2019. Officer Franck previously worked for Area Ambulance for four years and the U.S. Army Reserves for eight years before becoming a Law Enforcement Officer. Officer Franck is currently a certified Taser Instructor and an EMT (Emergency medical Technician).  In Officer Franck’s free time he enjoys spending time with his friends and family, shooting guns, and being outside. 

Tristan Dilley, Fairbank Part-Time Police Officer

Officer Tristan Dilley is a proud member of the Fairbank Police Department and has been serving since March of 2022. Officer Dilley is currently employed as a full-time Police Officer for the City of Independence. Officer Dilley acquired an Associate Degree in Police Science from Hawkeye Community College, and graduated from the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy in May of 2021. Officer Dilley is a certified TASER Instructor and an Emergency Medical Technician, and has worked on the ambulance service in Independence for the past 6 years.

 

Andrew Isley, Fairbank Part-Time Police Officer and Investigator

Officer Andy Isley has served with the Fairbank Police Department since the summer of 2022.  He serves as the department’s part-time investigator, focusing on sexual abuse and financial crimes.  He also serves an administrative function with information systems and crime reporting.

Officer Isley graduated from the University of Northern Iowa in 2007.  He was certified by the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy in April of 2009.  He has served the Buchanan County area with full-time employment with the cities of Jesup (2011-2015) and Independence (2015 – present).  He currently serves as Sergeant of Investigations at the Independence Police Department.

Officer Isley is a member of the Law Enforcement Intelligence Network (LEIN), the Buchanan County SART (Sex Abuse Response Team), and is a Standardized Field Sobriety Testing (SFST) Instructor.
